Groundwork has launched
a new Time Bank in Haringey. Sam Leggatt, who is a Haringey
resident, has been recruited as Time Bank Broker and will be
developing the time bank network initially starting in the White
Hart Lane and Northumberland Park area with plans to widen the
project across Haringey.
Residents won’t be able to deposit pounds and pence into the bank but will instead be able to make deposits and withdrawals of their time. There is already a successful network of timebanks across London but this will be the first Time Bank in Haringey.
The Haringey Time Bank will encourage people to exchange their time, participants will earn credits for helping each other - one hour of your time entitles you to an hour of someone else's time. For example a time bank member might help walk someone's dog and get a shelf put up in return by another member.
The aim of the Haringey Time Bank is to support local people by offering practical support and helping them increase skills and confidence by promoting self worth, the project will also improve relationships throughout the community, encourage healthy active lifestyles and help generate community spirit. The Time Bank is open to all residents to participate and benefit from.
The project has received funding from the Department of Health Communities for Health programme and administered through the Haringey Strategic Partnership.
